The above 60 Minutes investigative segment titled "Poison in Your Mouth" originally aired in 1990 on Mercury fillings and the poisonous effect on those who have them in their mouths. It only aired once because of the uproar it created in the dental field. You would never think that something so far reaching and pervasive as putting poison in your mouth could happen in the USA, but it did and we will never be the same as a result. Everyone alive should watch this video as a testament to the reality that no one is watching out for you except you.

Dr. Tom McGuire, DDS, in his book The Poison in Your Teeth provides compelling evidence that Mercury is a poison, more toxic than lead or arsenic. The debate is with the American Dental Association position that mercury fillings are not a major source of mercury in the body. If you break a thermometer, government guidelines recommend the room be sealed until Hazardous Materials experts can decontaminate the scene. Yet 80% of Americans have more mercury in their mouth than a thermometer. You may be one of them. According to research by the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT), every time you chew, drink, or brush your teeth, toxic mercury vapors and particles enter your body. When introduced to the body it goes mainly to organs like the brain, kidneys, liver and nerve cells where it hides relatively undetected, slowly poisoning the system.
Over the years there has been concern as to the safety of mercury amalgam fillings. An "amalgam" is a blend of copper, silver, tin and zinc, bound by elemental mercury over 50%. Dentists have used this blended metal to fill teeth for more than 100 years. The controversy is due to claims that the exposure to the vapor and minute particles from the mercury can cause a variety of health problems. The good news is that there are several available alternatives to mercury. As a holistic dentist, I use special, white fillings. If you have a mouth full of mercury, the removal process could expose you to more mercury than leaving them in unless it is done by an experienced holistic dentist. U.S. Government Calls for the Phase-Out of Amalgam!
In an extraordinary development that will change the global debate about amalgam, the United States government has announced that it supports a “phase down, with the goal of eventual phase out by all Parties, of mercury amalgam.” This statement – a radical reversal of its former position that “any change toward the use of dental amalgam is likely to result in positive public health outcomes” – is part of the U.S. government’s submission for the upcoming third round of negotiations for the world mercury treaty. Germany, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Austria, Finland, Canada, etc. have already banned amalgam fillings. California has passed a law requiring patients to sign a form disclosing that their dentist is using a controversial material in their mouth.
It is estimated that American dentists put 80 tons of toxic mercury and over 100 million fillings in our mouths every year. According to Michael Braunstein, HeartlandHealing.com, 92 percent of American dentists still say they prefer to work with amalgam fillings despite safer alternatives. Critics of amalgam fillings believe this established procedure is still being used because the financial interest is so lucrative, the procedure so ingrained.
The World Health Organization urges “switch” away from amalgam
In a clear sign that dentistry’s amalgam era is fading, the World Health Organization ("WHO") just released its long-awaited report on dental amalgam. Another city calls for the end of amalgam
On October 10, 2011 the City Council of Malibu, California passed a resolution supporting “national and worldwide efforts to reduce anthropogenic [man-made] sources of mercury to the environment.” Specifically, the city endorsed “efforts by UNEP [the United Nations Environmental Programme] to adopt an international treaty to phase out each of the above five major mercury pollutants”: batteries, electric switches and relays, measuring devices, mercury-containing lamps…and dental amalgam. Both of you are wounderful people and so are your saff, Kim , Josh, Brea and Kitsy, whom I feel are also my friends. I had been so ill for six years and had spent around fifthteen thousand dollars with doctor's and test but none of them could find out what was wrong with me and I truly was near death and spent most of my day in bed.
